Italian Serie B

Serie B, 20 clubs altogether, is operated as a double round-robin tournament (each club plays the others twice at home and away). Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a draw. No points are awarded for a loss. Teams are ranked by total points, then head-to-head stats. Promotion and Relegation1. The top two teams are automatically promoted. If the 3rd-placed team is 15 or more points ahead of the 4th-placed team, they are automatically promoted too, otherwise, a play-off determines the last promotion quota. Teams ranking from the third to the eighth and with 14 or less points behind the third place can participate in the qualifier. 2. The first round of the promotion playoffs is single-legged, in which the eighth plays the fifth and the sixth plays the seventh. If both teams are tied after 90 minutes, the one with higher ranking will be promoted. The third place will meet the sixth or seventh place, and the fourth place will see the eighth or the fifth in the second round. This round uses a double round-robin and does not have away goals rule. If the teams have equal points after two rounds, the one with higher ranking advance. The final is organized on a double round-robin basis. If the teams are tied after two rounds, they will play in 30-minute extra time. The higher classified team advance if there is a draw again.3. The three last-placed teams are directly demoted to Serie C. If the bottom 4th-placed team is 4 or more points less than the bottom 5th-placed team, then the bottom 4th-placed team are relegated, otherwise, both go to a double-legged playoffs. The lower ranked team are relegated if they are tied after two rounds.
